13 Sluice Gates on Lancang Island Receive Essential Upkeep

In a proactive move to safeguard coastal infrastructure, the Seribu Islands Water Resources Agency (SDA) has completed the servicing of 13 sluice gates on Lancang Island, Pari Island Urban Village, South Seribu Islands.

This serves as a vital line of defense

Recognizing the toll that harsh seawater takes on metal components, Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head Frans Agustinus Siahaan noted that this periodic maintenance is vital in thwarting rust and mechanical wear.

"By applying specialized lubrication, we are ensuring these gates remain resilient against the elements and ready for immediate deployment," he expressed, Tuesday (9/1).

Siahaan detailed that the maintenance sweep covered several strategic sites, from the West Pier and Klanceng Putih RPTRA to local landmarks like the Gazebo Urban Village and various local processing hubs.

The operation continued across the East Pier, Klanceng Beach, and Peri Pier, involving small, specialized teams of water resource personnel.

"Besides greasing the mechanisms, we are applying a fresh coat of paint to every gate. This serves as a vital line of defense, ensuring these public assets remain resilient against rust and long-term wear," he explained.

He underscored that these maintenance protocols are being systematically implemented across all other inhabited islands in the regency.

Beyond sluice gates, his team consistently monitors and services seawalls and drainage systems to keep the entire flood-control system at full capacity.

"Hope this proactive maintenance will significantly enhance the durability of our infrastructure, keeping our water management systems mission-ready at all times," Siahaan added.

This project received appreciation from the Pari Island Urban Village Head, Yusuf.

He urged the public to join hands in preserving the existing facilities to maximize their sustained longevity.

"This upkeep is paramount. These gates are a critical asset for the people, and we must ensure they remain in peak condition to serve the community effectively," he stated.
